According to Razlan Razali, the team manager of the Petronas Sepang Racing Team, he had plans to bring Alex Marquez into the team for the 2020 season. The idea was for Alex to race with SIC’s Moto2 team for a year before moving up to MotoGP with the team in 2021. However, Yamaha vetoed the deal stating that no member of the Marquez family is allowed to come to Yamaha, possibly due to the strained relationship between Yamaha and Alex’s brother, Marc Marquez. This strained relationship dates back to the 2015 MotoGP title fight, where there were conflicts and falling outs between Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi. Yamaha’s decision not to allow Alex Marquez to join their team became a personal matter for them.
